  • It can reach heights of 15–25 meters and features a dense crown with oval, serrated leaves.

Characteristics:

  • Hornbeam is a slow-growing but stable tree, known for its very strong and dense wood.
  • It prefers moist, fertile soils and a natural forest environment.
  • Its dense crown helps retain soil moisture and supports the stability of natural ecosystems.

Uses:

  • Commonly used in reforestation projects and forest restoration programs.
  • Effective for slope stabilization and reducing soil erosion.
  • Suitable for landscaping in natural and semi-natural areas.

Relevance for Yerevan and Armenia:

  • Hornbeam is not intended for urban landscaping and is not planted within city limits.
  • More suitable for planting in mountainous and sub-mountain forested areas.
  • In Armenia, it plays an important role in forest ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation.
